I just bought an open-box 13' Macbook Air (early 2015 model 7,2)


I understand that this model differs from the early 2015 7,1 and the 2013-2014 models, in that is uses the x4 PCIe instead of the X2 interface for SSD's.

What I DON'T understand is whether it needs a different SSD module than these other models to leverage this. In other words, does the 7,2 use a different SSD than the 7,1? Different part number for the same capacity?


I'm trying to upgrade my 128 to something bigger. Macbook office programme. What part numbers do I need for 256/512? Can I use the 2013-2014 parts?

First check to see which 13-inch MacBook Pro you have. Choose About This Mac from the Apple menu () in the upper-left corner of your screen. Confirm your model is 'MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).' If you have that model, enter your computer's serial number below to see if it is eligible for this program. This program does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models.

Your 13-inch MacBook Pro will be examined prior to service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order.

Prior to service, it's important to do a full back up of your data because your drive will be erased as part of the service process.

  • A technician will run a utility to update your drive firmware which will take approximately one hour or less.
  • Your 13-inch MacBook Pro will be returned to you with macOS re-installed.
  • After service, you will need to restore your data from a backup.

Since your computer will not be able to access the internet until after you do a restore, we recommend that you have another device, such as your iPhone, to view the Apple support article about restoring your data from backup.

Note: Any files that were already corrupted prior to service, cannot be restored.

  • Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.

This worldwide Apple program doesn't extend the standard warranty coverage of the 13-inch MacBook Pro.
